The Malaysian Stock Exchange started way back in 1930 and their jurisdiction covered Singapore. Singapore and Kuala Lumpur Stock Exchange split in 1973 following the ceased in currency interchangeability between Malaysia and Singapore. Bursa Malaysia was formerly known as the Kuala Lumpur Stock Exchange (KLSE).
Bursa Malaysia is also a public listed company in Malaysia since 2004 and is currently one of the largest companies traded in Malaysia.To date, Bursa Malaysia has over 1,000 companies listed.
What are the major industry in Malaysia?
The largest companies are mostly former state owned companies which were privatised through a Government initiative to attract foreign investors. The major sectors are Oil and Gas, Palm Oil and agriculture, banking, automotive, properties, power and utilities, mobile and telecommunications and gaming.
I'm a Foreigner, where do I start?
You will need a Central Depository System (CDS) account. If you are a foreigner, you may oopen an account with any of the Authorised Brokers. Alternatively you may contact your local bank if they have an investment banking branch in Malaysia. Most multinational banks have presence in Malaysia either directly or through collaboration with Malaysia's local banks.
