Hi! Edwin here and let’s talk about some tips that may come handy when shopping in Malaysia.
Shopping Tip No. #1
All sales in Malaysia are in denominated in Ringgit Malaysia. If you have USD or other foreign currencies, you may change them to Ringgit at the money changer (all major shopping malls have them) or at the bank branch. Changing money with strangers is not advisable.
Most shopping malls accept credit cards, Visa and Master Card
High-end luxury branded goods sold dirt cheap at street market or night market is dubious
To get the best deals, you can and are encouraged to haggle at street markets and night markets for everything except for food. Food and certain souvenirs are not negotiable. Haggling in shopping malls is not advisable
You can hop from one shopping place to another by taxi and train. But the stores in Kuala Lumpur are almost in close proximity to the one another that taking a walk wouldn’t hurt and you’ll never know what you might discover along the way.
Shopping Tip No. #6
Ringgit is denominated in RM 50, RM 10, RM 5 and RM 1 notes, while coins are denominated 10 cents 20 cents 50 cents.
All clothing stores have a designated trying room, so try them on before you purchase.
Shopping Tip No. #8
Keep your receipts. Most goods are non-refundable but some may be lenient.

Alcoholic beverages and tobacco products are highly taxed. Duty and tax free items can be purchased at all International Airports. All shopping malls in Langkawi Island sell duty free goods.
